Another awesome mini portrait session! Along with seeing some of my past wedding clients, I was so excited to have a referral from good friend and event coordinator extraordinaire, Sara Bauleke from Bella Notte DC! Sara passed along our info to her good friend Maggie and that led to meeting this most adorable family! Maggie and Trevor’s daughter Hazel is just beautiful, and boy did she and our cat Russell strike up a fast and hilarious friendship!
Thank you so much for heading over the Cottage Maggie, Trevor, and Hazel! It was awesome to have you all here for my inaugural mini sessions! I loved meeting you all!

What fun getting to experience Glen Echo Park with children who haven’t been there before! That was the case this past weekend with Maya and Fin! I spent so much of my childhood at Glen Echo (not to mention most of my 20’s too), so coming back here to photograph weddings, family, and the like is always so joyful! It really is an ideal place for taking portraits of kids. Not only are there plenty of places for them to explore and run free, the back drop is so colorful and easy to photograph! We had a blast climbing, running, spinning and jumping on, off, and around the entire historic grounds of Glen Echo.
Maya and Fin were adorable, and had a whole host of ideas for posing which I LOVE. Not to mention, Maya had some seriously fantastic fashion accessories she wanted to make sure to document. What great kids! They just made my day!

What can I say about the Ward family, except that I was SO impressed by all of them! I have a smaller family, so when I get the opportunity to be around a big one I am always watching with interest and curiosity. I noticed right away how much respect and love moved between all of the siblings, parents and kids! And then walking into the house I could feel the history of the Ward family; it emanated from the photos on the walls, the trinkets from years past and trips around the world. The house was gorgeous and warm and cozy all at the same time. Like most families these days, the adult kids are spread out across the country so dad’s 70th birthday was a great excuse for everyone to come together to celebrate. And with 7 grandkids, celebrate they DID! It was a jubilant and hilarious affair complete with musical performances, and a spur of the moment Conga line! It just doesn’t get much better than that!
It was a true joy to be a part of this celebration! I think the images speak for themselves as to how this family relates to one another. It was truly a memorable experience for me.
Another fantastic part of my job is getting the opportunity to photograph my clients throughout all the exciting stages in their lives: marriage, pregnancy, and childbirth!
I met little Ian for the first time on a crisp fall day. I guess I technically met him a year ago when I photographed him in his mamma’s belly, but this time I got to play with Ian and have the awesome experience of seeing Susan and Steve as parents! Everyone has different parenting styles, and I feel that I learn so much by watching my clients as they make their way through the great adventure that is parenting. And Susan and Steve are great parents who work well as a team!
Susan, Steve, Ian and I all met up at the National Building Museum in DC. Since it was a pretty brisk and chilly day I knew the Building Museum would be a fantastic place for Ian to move around inside. Luckily, as the weather warmed up we were able to take advantage of the grounds outside too! If you haven’t been to the National Building Museum, it’s such an amazing and, I feel, undervalued space in DC to meet up, learn, play, and explore. And while it’s a fantastic place for children, it’s also a great place for adults too!
It truly is an honor for me to document a new family. I remember when I first started as a full time photographer all those many years ago. I was, for some strange reason, afraid to work with families and children. I know now that my comfort level comes from my own growth and maturity as a person and photographer, but my relationships with my clients have also evolved over the years to a point at which I feel, if even just for a day, like a small part of their families. I feel like I am on this adventure with them as they navigate and explore what it means to be in a marriage, have children, relocate to new places…all that learning and life experience trickles down to me when we meet for a session. I feel this experience has given me perspective, confidence, and connection, all of which I believe only enhance my work as a photographer.
Check out some ridiculously cute photos of little Ian and the whole Britton Family, or go back to their maternity portraits.
Mother and daughter portraits with these two beautiful ladies is always a joy! This is my second shoot in a series with Laura and Z. This time we met at the fabulously whimsical Glen Echo Park.
The day couldn’t have been more perfect and, well, there just wasn’t a bad photo in the bunch.
Mother and daughter have quickly turned out to be one of my most favorite portrait sessions to shoot.
It was my great pleasure to photograph a gorgeous spring family portrait session at Chevy Chase Country Club for my fabulous, and oh-so-fun neighbors, the Sagarese Family! Fifteen years ago, Mark and Sally were married and had their wedding reception right here at the Chevy Chase Country Club.
The Sagareses and I have been neighbors for 10 years now, and over that decade it’s been amazing to watch their kids grow into the little adults they are becoming. Sally and Mark are dream neighbors in more ways than one, but the bottom line is: they are there when you need them! From fun moments like swapping plants for our gardens, to an anxious moment when they had to call 911 for me, Mark and Sally are just amazing folks and I feel very lucky and blessed to have such kind hearted neighbors!
In addition to being a great neighbor, Sally is also a fellow artist! It was almost a year ago that she did my makeup for my wedding day, and I always recommend her to ALL of my clients. To be on the receiving end of her artistry for my big day…well, it put me at ease and made me feel so taken care of. So being able to repay her with a family portrait session on her and Mark’s 15th wedding anniversary weekend was the least I could do!
We lucked out with a gorgeous day at Chevy Chase Country Club where we frolicked among the Adirondack chairs and in the sumptuous rose garden! Both kids were extremely comfortable in front of the camera, which was so fun that I found I just kept shooting frame after frame after frame. It was hard to narrow it down to just a few! There was also no shortage of silliness with these guys, which is definitely part of what made our time together such fun! I love that they just crack each other up!
But when it came right down to it, these guys could all make one good looking photograph. What a great afternoon getting to hang out with this tight knit family. I love seeing them together and I love that I had the chance to document this time in their lives. Thank you Sagarese Family for always being such great neighbors and friends!
See some of my favorites from our portrait session.
I had the honor and pleasure of photographing Becky, Brian and adorable little Owen this past April. I can’t get enough of Owen’s enormous blue eyes, his mischievous smile and his squeezable cheeks! I’ve been tremendously lucky to be a part of Becky and Brian’s lives over the last couple years.
Not only was I there to photograph their stunning and ridiculously fun wedding at Glen Echo Park in 2011, in 2012 I had the honor of photographing Becky’s father’s wedding in Atlanta, GA.
So to be able to document this new and exciting phase (parenthood) for one of my most favorite couples, was such pure and utter joy for me!
Becky, Brian and Owen have some big adventures coming up for their little family, and I know in my heart that where ever they go they will lead a truly amazing life!
I am honored to have been a part of so many amazing moments in your lives, so thank you Becky, Brian and wonderful little Owen for being so gracious, kind and supportive of my work!

Mary, Bryan and Hannah visited me at the cottage a week ago, just in time to squeeze in some beautiful fall themed portraits! Mary and Bryan were wedding clients of mine back in 2009, and they had a ridiculously fun wedding… so it was pretty exciting to hear that I was going to see them again and finally meet their precious daughter Hannah!
I could have photographed Hannah all day. She was totally at ease in front of the camera, making hilarious expressive faces that made us all laugh through the entire shoot.
A big congrats to you Mary and Bryan! It was so wonderful to see you both again and to meet beautiful Hannah, who is a such joy!
