I can’t believe it, but in the last year and a half to two years I’ve been so extremely fortunate to photograph the weddings of a handful of HB Woodlawn alumni! I can’t even begin to express the pure joy and honor I feel. For all of you who know HB, you understand the bond we all share. But for those of you who may not be familiar, HB Woodlawn is more than just a school — it’s a place that has turned out some of the most exceptional human beings I’ve known. I for one know that if I had gone anywhere other than HB, my life would not have turned out as well as it has. OK, I could go on and on about HB, but this has got to be a super quick post because Darius and Jennifer are getting married THIS weekend! I’m tickled pink to be photographing the big day, and also that we snuck in a quick engagement shoot in DC just under the wire. Darius and Jennifer will be wed in DC just a few short days from now, so I wanted to share a few of my favorites from our time together last week!
Stay tuned for what I know are going to be some raucous wedding images!

I had the great fortune — and I use that particular word for a reason — of meeting Denise at a seminar for artists that Washington Project for the Arts (WPA) put together last year. The seminar was about getting your finances and taxes in good working order, and if you’re an artist, you know how we can struggle with that sometimes! I signed up the moment that email from WPA was dropped in my mailbox, and I am so glad I did. Not only did I gain an AMAZING financial advisor (Denise), I also gained a friend, colleague, and someone who really understands what it means to be a working artist.
When Denise emailed me earlier this year to let me know she was getting married to her partner Lauren I was so thrilled and honored that they wanted me to shoot the wedding… but their wedding date was proving to be a very popular one and I was already booked! Luckily, I was in the process of finalizing my new business strategy for 2014 and was tickled pink to be able to let Denise and Lauren know that I now have an associate photographer, and he IS available! We all sat down over tea in DC one day and, boom, instant connection! So if I can’t be there to document the day, I know that Kip will be a great alternative.
Because I knew I wasn’t going to be able to be there on their wedding day, I inserted myself in the engagement shoot Kip had planned this past week, and I’m so glad I did. It was awesome to get to be a part of Denise and Lauren’s wedding celebration. I am so happy for them!
I can’t wait to share the wedding photos, but for now, here are some of our favorites from the shoot. Job well done Kip!
(and yes, that is me being cheesy and making a heart with my hands for Denise and Lauren to kiss through… I couldn’t help it)
Two of my new favorite people are engaged! I joined Cali and Dan for an engagement session in Old Town Alexandria, VA and, well…they are just fantastic people! Smart, funny, clever, easy going, interesting, creative–those are just a few of the adjectives I would use to describe them. And as an added bonus, they have fantastic taste in food and drink!
I have always loved Old Town. In fact, when I was just 19 years old I rented my very first apartment there! One of the things I love is that Old Town feels like a small city inside a larger city; it has all the wonderful aspects of Washington, DC, but it’s also quaint and charming. You feel like you are stepping back in time when you venture down some of the old streets.
It felt like coming full circle, this day of getting to know the Old Town that Cali and Dan enjoy. We went for a lovely early fall stroll, making ourselves at home among the beautiful architecture, delicious restaurants, and cobble stone streets. We ended our walk with drinks at The Majestic on King St, where Cali and Dan are Friday night regulars. I was so impressed that my husband and I went back just this week…with Cali and Dan, of course!
I am so glad my wedding photography gives me such amazing opportunities to meet great folks like these two! Cali and Dan will be married this October in Baltimore, and I can’t WAIT to celebrate with them!!

A big congratulations to Mandy and Mike! I had so much fun with them during their engagement portrait session in Washington, DC this fall. Mandy and Mike are both from upstate New York and will be heading back there for their wedding next year (and maybe settling back in that area, too). Coming to Washington, DC has been a new and exciting part of their journey together, and I am so glad I got the chance to help them capture this time in their relationship with some intimate engagement photographs around the Capitol. I hope that wherever they end up, these images will provide a tangible reminder of how their relationship took an amazing step in this amazing place! Yay!

How adorable are Dana and Alex?! And could Glen Echo Park
have been more perfect for these two?… I think not. Such wonderful perfection this shoot was. Alex and Dana have known each other since they were wee children. Deep love and respect have grown between them over the many years, and it shows.
What pure joy it was to photograph them on one of the few glorious June days here in the DC metro area. We lucked out and had the park (for the most part) to ourselves, and were able to take advantage of some of my favorite spots.
I am so excited for their wedding this coming fall. They have a truly special bond and I am looking forward to seeing how they create their own personal and unique wedding celebration.

Shannon and Stephen might be one of the cutest couples ever!
And what is more romantic than an engagement shoot at the Washington National Cathedral for this uber cutie bride and groom to be?
Shannon and Stephen will be crossing the “pond” from England to get married in DC this December at one of my favorite hotels, The Morrison House in Alexandria.
I had a blast walking the Cathedral grounds with Shannon and Stephen, hearing their story of how they met and learning more about their plans for the wedding day… can you say “top hat and tails” people?
December is going to be great!

Rock Creek Park is a huge labyrinth of trails, fields, old stone bridges and streams in the heart of Washington, DC, and one of my favorite places to explore. Funny enough, I had never done an engagement session in Rock Creek Park before so I was thrilled when Gretchen and Michael suggested it for their photo shoot. Meeting in the park also gave Michael and Gretchen the chance to bring the ever lovable Calvin to join them. Calvin, with his flowing golden locks, his rambunctious nature, and his ability to doggie paddle oh-so-well, almost stole the show! Of course, Gretchen and Michael weren’t too shabby themselves with some serious climbing skills, stick throwing abilities, and the expert water repelling maneuvers that were needed this day! I had a blast with all three of them on this super fine early spring adventure.
